Oh, Michael. Michael, I can't tell you. I don't know how to help you.
― Star to Michael

Star is the main love interest of the 1987 horror film The Lost Boys. She is a half-vampire and reluctant member of David's biker gang, who gains the attention of newcomer Michael Emerson and tries to protect him from David's dark influence.

She was portrayed by Jami Gertz.

History

It is unknown when Star fell in with David's crowd, but it can be assumed that she was a teenage runaway and became influenced by David to join them. She drank his blood which turned her into a half-vampire but refused to kill and complete the turning, although she faces urges constantly. When Laddie is taken by the gang, Star becomes his sole protector and tries to protect him from turning fully human too.

While walking on the boardwalk one evening, she spots Michael Emerson and can see that he's watching her. She playfully approaches him and the two flirt. He offers her a ride on his motorbike and she obliges, but is stopped when David and his gang arrives. David gives her a threatening look and she gets on the back of his bike instead. David invites Michael to ride with them and they speed away from the beach and towards a cliffs-edge. Star, riding on David's bike, is concerned for Michael, especially as David almost causes Michael's bike to ride off the cliff. After passing the "test" David invites Michael back to their hideout.

They sit in an abandoned room of a hotel located underneath the cliff and begin to eat. David continues to taunt Michael while Star watches on carefully. When he offers Michael a drink from a wine bottle, Star urges him to resist, telling him it's blood and he can choose not to drink it, but Michael doesn't believe her and drinks from it anyway. Michael returns to the hideout about the worrying changes happening to his body and he confronts Star, she tells him about the blood he drank and they share an intimate moment, where they sleep together and sleep in till the morning.

When David and his gang try to convince Michael to kill and complete his transformation, he flees back home and Star chases after him. His brother, Sam sees her calling out to him out of the window, then she suddenly appears in his bedroom, revealing herself as a vampire. Michael is angered and Sam is horrified, Star tells them Michael is only a half-vampire like her and Laddie since they haven't yet killed. She asks him to help her and Laddie escape but he laughs at her and she vanishes into the night.

Michael changes his mind and goes with Sam and two vampire hunters, the Frog brothers to the hideout. Michael takes Star and Laddie out to his car while the rest go to kill the vampire gang - however, they only manage to kill Marko as an angry David wakes up and threatens revenge. They all flee in the car.

They return to Michael's house and prepare for David's attack on them. As the vampire gang invade the house the Frog brothers decide to stake Star and Laddie but they run and hide as another vampire attacks the brothers. Later, when Laddie loses control and his vampire urges take over, Star protects him from the brothers and Sam, telling them he's just a "little boy" and he can't help it. When Michael successfully kills David, who they believe is the head vampire, they notice that there is no change and are still half-vampire.

Michael's mother returns home to the chaos, with her boyfriend Max in tow and he reveals himself to have been the head vampire all along. Star realises that he is the secret David was protecting and lunges to attack him but he throws her to the ground. Max is killed by Michael and Star is reverted back to a human and they embrace.
