Ringu is a 1998 Japanese horror film directed by Hideo Nakata based on the novel Ringu by Koji Suzuki.
A journalist, Reiko Asakawa, who investigates the urban legend of a boy and a video curse that if you watch it you die in seven days. She, after seeing it and being cursed, shows the tape to her ex-husband Ryuji and they make a copy that, due to an oversight, ends up being seen by her son Yoichi. They then travel to Oshima Izu and stay at the Yamamura Pension, where Sadako Yamamura grew up. They find the mirror where Shizuko her mother used to comb her hair. On the penultimate day, Takashi Yamamura, Shizuko's cousin, tells Ryuji that Shizuko spent hours looking at the sea. The fishermen hated her. When Ryuji questions him about his daughter, Takashi denies her existence and tries to run away. But when Ryuji grabs him and Reiko approaches, they see how Takashi was in a Demonstration of powers in front of the press made by Ikuma. In the middle of this, a man accused Shizuko of being a fraud and incited others to discredit her. Suddenly the man puts on a horrified expression and falls dead to the ground. The others call Shizuko a monster but she discovers that it was Sadako who killed the man with her telekinesis and she runs away. When he stands in front of Reiko, she grabs his hand and leaves a real mark on his arm. So on the last day, they decide to return from Oshima to investigate cabin B4. There below they find a sealed well. They open it and see Sadako's nails embedded in the well. They go down and gradually empty the water until they find Sadako's corpse. He removes the skin and hair and sees that it is a skeleton and slimy mucus comes out of its eyes that makes it look like Sadako is crying. Reiko hugs the corpse and Ryuji informs her from above that it is 7:10 PM and that they are saved. The next day Ryuji is at home writing when suddenly he hears the strange sound of the tape, he turns around and sees the image of the well. This time it is longer. Sadako starts to climb out of the well and slowly approaches the screen. Ryuji, understanding everything, picks up the phone to warn Reiko, but fear prevents him from speaking. Sadako sticks her head out of the screen, then one arm, then the other, and walks completely out of the TV. He crawls and gets up. Ryuji feels overwhelming fear and trips and hurts his ankle when he sees Sadako approaching. Finally Ryuji lying on the ground, sees Sadako standing in front of him, looks up and shows his bulging eye. Ryuji dies right there. Reiko finishes listening to how the sound of the tape fades and runs to the building where Ryuji's apartment is, but the guard at the entrance tells her that they have already removed the body from there.
