"Padak" (파닥파닥) is a 2012 South Korean adult animated musical survival horror drama film. The title "Padak" is a Korean onomatopoeia for the sound of a fish flapping or flopping. The film is also known by its English title, "Swimming to Sea."
The story follows a wild mackerel, nicknamed "Padak" or "Flappy," who is caught and placed in a fish tank at a seafood restaurant. She desperately tries to escape and return to the ocean, but the other fish in the tank—mostly farm-raised—have grown accustomed to their confinement. They are led by a domineering and cynical old halibut who teaches them how to survive by playing dead and being submissive.
The movie is known for its dark and often grim tone, featuring themes of despair, survival, and the harsh realities of the food chain. It is a stark contrast to more family-friendly animated films about fish, and it has garnered a reputation for its unsettling atmosphere, musical numbers, and gruesome imagery.
